Have you ever considered beekeeping as a hobby? It can be beneficial in a lot of ways. To name a few, bees can improve the pollination of your garden and orchard, you can harvest pollen and honey, and you can help support the bee population.
Beekeeping doesn’t just have to be honeybees either. Mason bees are a great bee to have around. They are robust pollinators, even better than honeybees, and don’t require any hive care.
I’ve maintained hives of honeybees, colonies of mason bees and leafcutter bees and welcomed bounds of bumble bees. I’ve worked with school students to install observation hives, installed and maintained hives for peers and businesses, and mentored many through the Sheboygan County Beekeepers Association.
